Andreas Wernersson scores Lestrup Team’s first win at Knutstorp

Andreas Wernersson took a lights-to-flag victory to score the Lestrup Racing Team’s first victory, and the second of his STCC career in the second race at Knutstorp, with PWR’s Robert Dahlgren and KMS’s Johan Kristoffersson completing the podium.

Wernersson made a perfect start in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, while Hugo Nerman bogged down in fourth on the grid in his KMS Volkswagen, causing a commotion behind.

Further back, Jessica Bäckman in the WestCoast Racing Volkswagen and Oskar Krüger in his Golf both spun into each other as they passed Olli Kangas’ LMS Cupra, and were facing backwards on the track, with the safety car called on lap one.

Wernersson was now in the lead ahead of WestCoast’s Fredrik Ekblom, with Andreas Ahlberg third in his Micke Kågered Racing Volkswagen.

The race resumed on lap four, with Robert Dahlgren quickly putting a move on Ahlberg to snatch third at Turn 2, with Johan Kristoffersson following him through into fourth position.

Dahlgren was still on a charge, and was able to pass three-time champion Ekblom’s Golf at Turn 1 at the start of lap nine, with Ekblom losing one more spot to Kristoffersson a lap later at Turn 6.

Race 1 pole-sitter put on a good move to pass Tobias Brink’s Audi RS 3 LMS at Turn 1 on lap 11, but six laps later his race came to an end when his PWR Cupra crawled to a half after the start-finish line.

Wernersson went on to win the race by 2.4 seconds over Dahlgren, but with Daniel Haglöf having worked his way to fifth, it’s the 39-year-old who leaves Knutstorp with the lead of the championship, one point ahead of Dahlgren, with Wernersson third, four points further behind.

The next round of the STCC takes place at Anderstorp on June 16th-17th.
