Andreas Wernersson delighted to score Lestrup’s first race win

Andreas Wernersson put on a great performance in the reversed grid second race at Knutstorp to take the Lestrup Racing Team’s first victory in the STCC, and Wernersson’s first since 2014.

The 23-year-old had already moved up from tenth to sixth in Race 1, and then from pole position was able to control the gap, first to three-time champion Fredrik Ekblom’s WestCoast Volkswagen, and then to the PWR Cupra of Robert Dahlgren, to secure victory.

“I had a good start and the car was really easy on the tyres and I was able to push all race,” said Wernersson to TouringCarTimes. “I saw Robert Dahlgren in the PWR car get to second, and I got a little bit nervous, but it was just about looking forward and doing what we can do.”

With two strong results on race day, Wernersson heads to the next round at Anderstorp third in the standings, the closest threat to the two PWR Cupras of Daniel Haglöf and Dahlgren, and the best-placed Volkswagen driver in the standings.

“I’m really excited,” he added. “We’ve had a good start to the year and hopefully we can build on that at Anderstorp and claim some good points.”
