Dusan Borkovic leads the second free practice session at Zandvoort

TCR Europe championship leader Dusan Borkovic topped the time sheets in the second practice session at Circuit Zandvoort, jumping to the top right at the end of the 30-minute session in his Target Competition Hyundai i30 N TCR ahead of the Team WRT Audi RS 3 LMS of Jaap van Lagen.

Azcona set the early pace in the Cupra TCR for the first half of the session, but Van Lagen waited until the mid-point to even set a lap time, then jumping to first place with a time of 1:45.526, almost a second clear of Azcona.

The Spaniard was able to respond and reduced the gap to four-tenths of a second, also breaking under the 1:46 barrier, but couldn’t outpace the Dutchman at his home circuit.

Championship leader Dusan Borkovic soon emerged as the two drivers’ closest threat, popping his Target Competition Hyundai i30 N TCR into third, seven-tenths of a second back just before 20 minutes were up, but the Serbian found even more time in his Hyundai before the end of the session, going fastest overall by just 0.098 seconds just as the session came to a close.

Attila Tassi meanwhile had moved his KCMG Honda Civic up to second, and was dropped to third after Borkovic’s late improvement, while Comtoyou Racing’s Maxime Potty went fourth fastest in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Azcona finished up fifth ahead of the second fastest Hyundai of Kris Richard, with Stian Paulsen’s Cupra seventh ahead of Reece Barr’s Target Hyundai, with KCMG Honda driver Josh Files and M1RA Hyundai driver Francisco Mora completing the top ten.

Qualifying is next up for TCR Europe at 15:45 CET.
