Tom Ingram hit with grid penalty

Championship leader Tom Ingram has been stripped of his best time in qualifying for the latest rounds of the BTCC season at Thruxton.

The Speedworks driver had posted the sixth best time despite maximum ballast on his Toyota Avensis but was stripped of his time after being deemed to have exceeded track limits.

Speedworks appealed the judgement, but stewards upheld the original decision of the Race Director.

Ingram will now drop to tenth on the grid as a result, with Sam Tordoff, Tom Chilton, Andrew Jordan and Chris Smiley all being moved up a place.

Despite the penalty, Ingram will still line up ahead of his closest title rivals Adam Morgan (12th), Jack Goff (14th) and Josh Cook (15th).
