Lights-to-flag success for Adam Morgan in Thruxton finale

Adam Morgan produced a fine drive in the final race of the weekend at Thruxton to pick up his second victory of the BTCC season.

The Ciceley Motorsport driver had started from pole position thanks to the reverse grid draw and made the ideal start to lead the field into turn one and wouldn’t be headed from that point onwards as his rivals battled behind.

Morgan was able to build a lead over the chasing pack and was never seriously troubled as he picked up his second victory of the campaign, with Jack Goff emerging as his closest rival.

Goff had started the race from seventh spot but made the most of the pace in his Eurotech-run Honda Civic Type-R to storm through the field with easily his strongest drive of the weekend.

Goff had seemed set for third spot having found himself stuck behind Senna Proctor’s Vauxhall Astra but was able to make a move on the penultimate lap into turn one – but was unable to chase down the leader.

Proctor settled for third ahead of Sam Tordoff who was once again impressive in his Motorbase-run Ford Focus, with the top six completed by Colin Turkington and race two winner Josh Cook.

Previous championship leader Tom Ingram fought back to seventh after a tough race day, with Matt Neal, Chris Smiley and Rob Collard rounding out the top ten.

Two drivers failed to make the start, with technical issues sidelining Jason Plato and Andrew Jordan being withdrawn as a result of illness that prevented him from taking up third on the grid.
