Luigi Ferrara takes lights-to-flag win at Misano

Luigi Ferrara took his third win of the year at Misano. The V-Action driver’s lead was never under threat, as Cupra driver Salvatore Tavano came second ahead of Plamen Kralev’s Audi in an eventful race.

Drama began even before the start, when defending champion Nicola Baldan had to park his Pit Lane Competizioni Hyundai i30 N TCR on his way to the grid due to an undisclosed technical issue.

At the start Ferrara comfortably retained his lead, ahead of Tavano and Honda driver Lorenzo Nicoli. The MM Motorsport driver immediately started putting pressure on the Cupra, basically attacking at every corner and showing superior pace. With eight minutes to go the Honda driver had just passed Tavano, but spun at high speed at Carro in what looked like a lock-up of the rear brakes. The car survived the spin, but dropped down the order to ninth.

Kralev initially looked like he could chase Tavano for second as well, but the Sicily-based driver was quick enough to open a gap. Behind him the battle raged on for fourth, as BRC Racing’s Eric Scalvini and Jürgen Schmarl’s Honda Civic made contact with two laps to go, which allowed MM Motorsport’s Max Mugelli to further close in and get closer to the duo, passing the Austrian.

Scalvini also made a small mistake at the last lap just out of the last corner, but he hung on to fourth ahead of Mugelli and Schmarl. Marco Pellegrini was seventh in his Honda Civic, ahead of Pit Lane Competizioni’s Nicola Larini and Lorenzo Nicoli’s Honda. Enrico Bettera completed the top ten.

The DSG Trophy saw series returnée Giuseppe Montalbano lead a BF Motorsport 1-2-3 in class, ahead of fellow Cupra drivers Matteo Bergonzini and Alessandro Thellung.

Race 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at 10:40 CET.
