Dusan Borkovic and Josh Files handed grid penalties for Assen after contact

Dusan Borkovic and Josh Files have received a three place grid penalty for the next round of the TCR Europe series at Assen next month, following contact during today’s second race at the Hungaroring.

Race 1 winner Borkovic was forced to retire from the second encounter after he ran into the back of Files’ KCMG Honda Civic Type R FK8 TCR approaching Turn 12.

Files continued to finish on the podium in third, while Borkovic lasted just one lap longer.

Files was punished for a similarly forceful manoeuvre on the JSB Compétition Peugeot 308TCR of Julien Briché at the penultimate corner during the same race.

The penalty is particularly bad news for Borkovic, who was left ruing lost points in his title fight with Mikel Azcona. The Serbian already feels the next two rounds at Assen and Monza will not suit the Hyundai i30 N TCR.

“For sure these circuits are not good for our car, so I needed to score as many points as possible today. We lost so many points,” Borkovic told TouringCarTimes.
