WestCoast Racing take three drivers to TCR UK and one to the STCC

WestCoast Racing have confirmed they’ll run three of their drivers at the upcoming round of the TCR UK championship at Croft, leaving a fledgling team to run a solitary car for Fredrik Ekblom in the STCC.

“We are going to be a smaller team but we are more than ready and will work on as per usual in a smaller and more efficient team. I think this can be good and it looks like Rudskogen is a circuit that will suit us at WestCoast Racing better,” said Ekblom.

The Swedish team are in contention for both the drivers’ titles in the UK and Sweden, with Dan Lloyd having led the championship standings in the UK since the start of the season in what’s so far been a race-by-race programme. Lloyd can mathematically, and will most likely, wrap up the TCR UK drivers’ championship title a race weekend early at Croft.

Meanwhile, three-time STCC champion Ekblom has only an outside chance in Sweden, with 2012 STCC champion and reigning World Rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson currently leading the standings, with Ekblom fifth, 38 points behind.

The team will also run Swedish siblings Jessica and Andreas Bäckman at Croft, with both of the Bäckmans having had their best results in the UK, with three podium finishes between them.

“Dan is driving for the title in the UK and both Andreas and Jessica have a shot for a good result there,” said team owner Dick Jönsson Wigroth. “So when we realised we could divide the team in this way and run with Fredrik in Norway and the others at Croft, we took this decision. In this way we can fulfil the needs of all of our partners and I look forward seeing the team take on two race weekends at once. It will be a fun and interesting weekend, I will be with Fredrik at Rudskogen.”
