TCR Scandinavia promoter and STCC move to play down “split” threat

The promoter of TCR Scandinavia, Greger Petersson, and the STCC chairman Hans Bååth, have released a statement assuring the future of the series, quashing the split fears which were reported in the Swedish national press earlier this week.

Petersson had voiced his frustration with the result of the STCC disciplinary board in respect of PWR Racing’s Karlskoga reinstatement, implying he would take the regulation elsewhere.

Petersson is the CEO of TCR Scandinavian Touringcarseries AB and the rights holder for the TCR concept in Sweden.

“We shall continue our long-term cooperation as before, and hope we can develop the class in a positive way,” said Petersson.

The STCC made the switch to TCR’s technical regulations last year from Solution-F, which had seen the championship’s field decline since its Super 2000 years, with a season’s high of 22 cars entered this weekend at Mantorp Park.

Solution-F was the catalyst in notorious one-year split, which saw two championships in Sweden in 2012, the STCC, which had planned to introduce the UK’s NGTC formula to replace S2000, and the TTA – Racing Elite League, which had opted for the lower cost Solution-F.

“STCC will continue to compete with the TCR regulation, which is the strongest growing in the world, and we have a good working relationship with them,” said Hans Bååth, chairman of STCC AB.
