Francisco Abreu confident after reversed-grid pole position

Sports&You driver Francisco Abreu was tenth fastest in today’s qualifying at Monza, Italy. The Peugeot308 TCR has good top speed, which would normally have helped at Monza, but an increase in base weight made it all more difficult for them. Despite this, the Portuguese believes he did the best job possible.

“It’s not an easy track for Peugeot, we have 80 kilos more than we used to, so it changed the game quite a bit,” said Abreu to TouringCarTimes. “It’s a new track for me as usual, but we are improving all the time and the car was excellent under the circumstances. We need to try to have a good race from tenth today, tomorrow will be about going for the win.”

Having already fought for a win in Hungary, which was hampered by brake issues, Abreu thinks the combination of good top speed and improved brake discs will allow him to defend from pole position tomorrow.

“In Hungary we fought for the win, but the brakes overheated and it became difficult for me. This time we have different brake discs, so this should allow us to have a better feeling and hopefully I will be able to protect and defend position. Peugeot and Sports&You are doing a great job and I hope I will be able to have a good result to pay them back for their efforts.”
