Jamie Whincup secures provisional Bathurst 1000 pole position

Jamie Whincup has secured provisional pole position for the 2018 Bathurst 1000 race, setting a lap time of 2:04.1093 in his Triple Eight Race Engineering-prepared Holden Commodore.

The top ten cars in this qualifying session will make it on to the top ten shootout tomorrow and among the top drivers missing out was Ford drivers Fabian Coulthard of DJR Team Penske and Chaz Mostert of Tickford Racing.

David Reynolds was second fastest for Erebus Motorsport, 0.1555 seconds behind, with title challenger Scott McLaughlin third fastest for DJR Team Penske, 0.1769 seconds behind.

Championship leader Shane van Gisbergen was fourth ahead of fellow Holden drivers James Courtney and Craig Lowndes in positions five and six respectively.

Cameron Waters was 0.4701 seconds from the fastest time for Tickford Racing in seventh with Nick Percat in eighth and Anton de Pasquale in ninth for Erebus Motorsport.

Garth Tander was the final driver to make it to the shootout in tenth position for Garry Rogers Motorsport, 0.7474 seconds from Whincup’s fastest time.

The top ten shootout starts at 09:10 CEST/17:10 local time.
