Igor Stefanovski takes pole position in Monza season finale

Igor Stefanovski took pole position at Monza, the Macedonian confirming his dominant performance from yesterday, when he topped both free practice sessions. Fellow Cupra driver and championship leader Salvatore Tavano was just 0.05s slower in his SEAT Sport Italia-run car.

Eric Scalvini was third fastest in his Hyundai i30 N TCR, the young driver splitting the two title rivals as he was a tenth quicker than Luigi Ferrara in his V-Action Giulietta. Enrico Bettera will line up fifth in the fastest of the Audis, ahead of fastest DSG Trophy driver Matteo Greco.

Andrea Larini will share the fourth row in his Cupra with Mauro Guastamacchia’s Honda Civic. Lorenzo Nicoli will line up ninth in another Honda, ahead of Francesco Savoia’s DSG-equipped Cupra.

The session was red-flagged twice. Federico Paolino’s Hyundai i30 N TCR caused the first interruption early in the session, whereas Alessandro Thellung’s DSG-equipped Cupra needed recovery shortly after the session was restarted.

The first race of the weekend, which could potentially hand the title to Tavano, should the Cupra driver finish fourth or higher (or fifth, provided Ferrara doesn’t score the fastest lap), will start at 15:00 CEST.
