Attila Tassi strikes late to lead KCMG front-row in Barcelona

Attila Tassi produced the fastest lap of the weekend to snatch pole position from KCMG team-mate Josh Files for the penultimate round of the TCR Europe series season in Barcelona.

The Hungarian struck late on in Q2 to set a time of 1m53.861, beating Files by little over four-hundredths of a second.

Tassi and Files therefore pick up five and four points respectively, while Borkovic only managed to score two points for fourth, to move KCMG into the lead of the teams’ championship by two points over Target Competition.

Title contenders Mikel Azcona of PCR Sport and Borkovic of Target Competition will line up third and fourth respectively, with Azcona extending his championship advantage over Team WRT’s Jean-Karl Vernay by three points.

Vernay suffered a miserable qualifying and missed out on a place in Q2 by just four-hundredths. The Frenchman will start Race 1 from 13th on the grid.

In the battle for the teams’ championship, Target Competition hold the advantage for Race 2, with Peter Terting starting from pole, alongside the third KCMG Honda Civic Type R FK8 of fellow German Mike Halder.

The Q2 session of qualifying began in almost completely dry conditions, and the first runs largely set the grid for the opening race.

Race 1 is scheduled to start later on today at 17:30 CEST.
