Target Competition: “We will not tolerate aggression and violence in our sport”

Target Competition has responded to the news that driver Dušan Borković has been banned for the remainder of the TCR Europe season, with the Hyundai team insisting that it would “not tolerate aggression and violence in our sport”.

Borković was told by series promoters that he was no longer welcome in the paddock for the remainder of the season after an incident following the second race of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

It marked the second time in less than twelve months that the Serbian racer had been involved in such an incident, with the decision taken to ban him from competing in the series as a result.

Target will now seek to replace Borković for the remaining events at Oschersleben, Catalunya and Monza and expressed regret for the actions of its driver in Austria – actions it was quick to distance itself from.

“Target Competition is a professional sports team always seeking to maximise the performance of our championship winning cars, in this case our Hyundai i30 N TCR cars in the TCR Europe championship. We search to take titles, victories and pole positions.

“During the Red Bull Ring weekend of TCR Europe we as a team had excellent results and had the chance to celebrate at the podium ceremony in both races. Whilst the team was celebrating our race two podium, an unfortunate incident happened in the paddock at the opposite end of the pit lane.

“There was a confrontation between driver Dušan Borković and members of another team including one of their drivers. We absolutely do not condone such behaviour and were very upset to hear of such an incident.

“As a team we cannot be responsible for the mindset, mentality and actions of our drivers. We always try to keep them focused and professional in their appearance and attitude but sometimes situations fall completely out our control such as this one. Again, we DO NOT accept any form of aggressive behaviour, and do not agree with any form of violence.

“Dušan Borković has since been banned from TCR Europe for his actions. We understand and accept the actions that have been taken by the series promoter.

“We are sorry for the actions of Dušan Borković in Red Bull Ring and we are sorry for him and his family that he can no longer race in TCR Europe. We are now searching for a replacement driver for the #62 car for the remainder of the year. We hope to continue working with Dušan on other projects as we know the true gentleman that he can be. We accept the TCR Europe promoters’ decision to act against his actions. We also will not tolerate aggression and violence in our sport.

“We, Target Competition, will now continue with our preparations and search of performance to be ready for the next round at Oschersleben as we have two titles to try and win.”
