Andrew Jordan tops mixed second practice at Brands

Andrew Jordan moved to the top of the times in second practice at Brands Hatch ahead of the final rounds of the BTCC season.

As has been the case in FP1 earlier in the morning, mixed weather conditions would have an impact on the session, with the majority of the field not setting representative times – leaving plenty of question marks over what to expect from qualifying later this afternoon.

Jordan had set a number of laps quicker than anyone else having swapped to dry tyres to go two seconds clear of the chasing pack, with Jake Hill the only person to get within half a second of the BMW, before a red flag was thrown after the MG of Sam Osborne went off on the GP loop.

Although the session would restart, there would be no major improvements in the closing minutes as rain started to fall once again – leaving most drivers unable to get a run on slick tyres.

That meant there was the unusual sight of Ash Sutton in third being more than two seconds off Jordan’s pace, with Adam Morgan, Rory Butcher and Stephen Jelley rounding out the top six – the latter being one of only two drivers to improve their times late on.

Points leader Colin Turkington was eighth having been just about to switch to slicks when the red flag came out, with Josh Cook in tenth, Tom Ingram down in 17th and Dan Cammish 22nd.

However, with more than six seconds covering the title contenders, actual lap times were of little value, with focus now turning to qualifying at 15:05.
