Martin Andersen joins TCR Denmark with Hyundai

Just as the TCR Denmark teams and drivers gather for two days of testing at FDM Jyllandsringen, another driver has been added to the grid after Martin Andersen announced his entry for the season ahead.

The 2018 OK Mobil1 Super GT Danmark champion will be at the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR.

“I will join the TCR Denmark with a Hyundai i30 N TCR in co-operation with Hyundai Denmark,” he said. “The plan for this year is to race a single car, and I am super proud that they wanted me to drive it.

“It is a great opportunity for me to work with a brand who has won the WTCR two years in a row.”

Although Andersen has spent the last five seasons behind the wheel of rear wheel-driven cars in now defunct Danish Thundersport Championship, as well as in the OK Mobil1 Super GT Danmark championship, it all began in front wheel-drive cars in the SEAT Leon Supercopa that he drove in the Yokohama Super Cup in 2014.

“I am going to get to grips with a lot of new stuff after five years with rear wheel-drive, and I am looking forward to it,” he said. “This is a very open championship that allows us to do a lot of racing in Denmark and beyond if we want to, and the whole setup with a strong calendar and officials from FIA makes very good sense to me.”

The day before joining the rest of the grid for the two-day test, Andersen is quite clear about his goal for the season.

“It’s all new, and I think everyone wants to be in the top five in the end of the season,” he said. “We want that as well, and I believe it is a realistic goal. We’ve got Hyundai Motorsport supporting us with their international successes behind them. It’s our turn now.”

The TCR Denmark championship kicks off at FDM Jyllandsringen on the 20-21st of June.
