Jacob Mathiassen returns to Insight Racing for TCR Denmark campaign

Former British GT driver Jacob Mathiassen returns to the Danish circuits with long time partner Insight Racing for the inaugural TCR Denmark season, driving an Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR.

Mathiassen, having spent the last seasons primarily racing on European and UK circuits in GT machinery, returns with the team that helped him secure the 2018 Danish DS3 Cup championship.

“I’m back in Denmark again, and I can’t imagine a better place to be than with Insight Racing. They have been by my side since we won the Citroën DS3 Cup in 2016 – and I’ve enjoyed a lot of advice and counselling all the way up till now. It’s huge for me to be back with these guys,” said Mathiassen.

The change of scenery also means going back to front-wheel driven machinery. Despite not having driven that kind of cars for some years, Mathiassen is heading into the series with high expectations.

“It is a different style of driving, but it’s been progressing fast and I have got a great feeling already. We need to be in the front of the grid and battle for the championship. I don’t believe we have shown our full potential yet,” said Mathiassen, who tested earlier with Insight Racing earlier this spring.

As the first race of the season is scheduled for the weekend, the COVID-19 outbreak means that the race weekend is going to take place without any spectators in place at FDM Jyllandsringen.

However, aiming to give back something to the sponsors, Mathiassen has arranged for his sponsors to meet and watch the race together in his hometown, Hobro.
