TCR Europe introduces new qualifying points system

Organisers of TCR Europe have confirmed a change to the scoring system for the 2022 season, which will see points awarded for both phases of qualifying.

The previous regulations saw the top ten drivers in the final qualifying results handed points on a sliding scale from ten for pole down to a single point for tenth spot.

There were however no points handed out for the earlier stage of the session that was used to determine the reverse grid for the weekend, leading to drivers taking a tactical approach to ensure pole for race two.

The revised rules will see the top six drivers in Q1 handed points from six down to one, with the leading five drivers in Q2 being allocated points on the basis of 10, 7, 5, 4 and three.

The points system for the races remains unchanged although all results will now count towards the final totals – with no dropped scores in place.
