Nicolai Sylvest wins safety car affected second Copenhagen race

Nicolai Sylvest won the second TCR Denmark race of the weekend in Copenhagen, a race which was ended behind the safety car due to a late incident as light rain started to fall.

Hyundai driver Philip Lindberg started from pole position and kept the lead through Turn 1 while disaster struck for Insight Racing driver Jacob Mathiassen who touched the wall at the exit of Turn 2, dropping from second to fifth position.

Reigning champion Kasper Jensen made a strong start from fifth on the grid up to third before the end of the first lap.

Green Development driver Sylvest made a strong move on Lindberg to claim the lead on lap three, also allowing Jensen to snatch second place.

The safety car was called into action on lap four as TPR Motorsport driver Anton Berström hit the wall and came to a halt on track with a broken front-left suspension.

The race resumed on lap seven as a light rain started to fall.

Race one winner Mike Halder, who started sixth, passed GMB Motorsport driver Gustav Birch for fourth on lap eight.

The start of lap nine saw Lindberg and Peugeot driver Johnny Vejlebo making contact, forcing Lars Højris to take avoiding action and spun to a halt across the track.

This brought the safety car out again and led the field over the finishing line.

Sylvest won the race ahead of Jensen and Halder, with Birch in fourth and Mathiassen fifth. Cupra driver Michael Markussen rounded off the top six.

The third and final race of the weekend starts at 14:50 CEST.
