Tom Ingram: Silverstone qualifying ‘most important of the year’

Tom Ingram says he feels that this weekend’s qualifying session at Silverstone could prove to be the most important of the 2022 BTCC season.

The Northamptonshire circuit will play host to the penultimate meeting of the campaign, with EXCELR8 racer Ingram going into the weekend sitting a close third in the championship standings.

One of the form drivers at the circuit – having scored a podium every season since 2016 – Ingram will be bidding for a fourth victory of the campaign but he admitted that Saturday’s qualifying session could be the key part of the weekend given the short nature of Silverstone’s National layout.

“People say Silverstone looks like an easy circuit when there are only really four corners and a few straights, but that actually makes it more of a challenge because the times are so close,” he said.

“You have to really maximise what you have, and I believe that Saturday will be the most important qualifying session we have had so far this season.

“A good grid slot is going to be vital because if you find yourself back in the pack, the fact things are so close will make it tricky to fight your way forwards. That could make all the difference amongst those of us in contention for the title…

“Although we’re now getting into the business end of the season, I’m feeling really relaxed going into the weekend. We’ll just focus on doing the best job possible and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a case of maximum attack.”
