Contender Tom Ingram hits the front in second practice

Championship contender Tom Ingram set the fastest lap of the weekend to date to top second practice ahead of the BTCC finale at Brands Hatch.

Ingram powered his Hyundai to a storming time of 1:30.213s which was good enough to put him nearly four tenths of a second clear of his closest rival – which proved to be the Cupra of Bobby Thompson.

Thompson vaulted up the order late on to prevent an EXCELR8 1-2, with Dan Lloyd having held second spot before he was left to ultimately settle for third place.

Colin Turkington briefly held top spot at one stage in his BMW but the title outside would end up back in fourth place, with the top six rounded out by FP1 pace-setter Dan Cammish and the Honda of Jason Plato – ahead of what could potentially be his final weekend in the series.

George Gamble and Dan Rowbottom followed behind, with the top ten completed by the remaining two championship contenders in the shape of Jake Hill and current points leader Ash Sutton.
