Chris Smiley claims dominant Snetterton pole in red-flagged qualifying

Points leader Chris Smiley dominated the final TCR UK qualifying session of 2022 at Snetterton, claiming pole by a margin of seven tenths over Hyundai driver Alex Ley.

Pole hands the Restart Racing driver six points, meaning that Smiley opens up a four-point gap over main title rival Isaac Smith who could only manage fifth in this session.

Bradley Hutchison put his Audi RS 3 LMS in third place on the grid, 0.943 seconds from pole, on the drying but still wet track.

Bradley Kent secured fourth place for Essex & Kent Motorsport and was the last driver to get within one second from the pole time.

Cupra driver Callum Newsham was sixth fastest for Power Maxed Racing behind Smith, 1.4 and 1.2 seconds from the top time respectively.

The session was red-flagged with three minutes left of the session as Ley went into the barriers with what seemed to be light damage. The session was not resumed.

Jac Constable, who was third fastest in the morning practice, had a tough qualifying session and came to a halt early on due to technical issues with his Cupra TCR.

The penultimate race of 2022 starts at 13:30 local time/14:30 CEST.
