43 cars entered for TCR Italy openers as organisers splits grid

A record number of 43 cars have been entered for the TCR Italy opener at Imola this weekend, with the championship announcers announcing a split of the grid between cars with sequential (SEQ) gearbox and DSG gearbox.

The split means that 33 cars will take part in the SEQ races and ten cars in the DSG races for a total of four races during the season opener weekend.

Two joint practice sessions have been held while the qualifying and races will be held separately.

The final practice session of the day had TCR Europe champion Franco Girolami fastest, beating the recently announced entry of PMA Motorsport driver Felice Jelmini by close to eight tenths of a second.

Mattias Vathel of MM Motorsport was third fastest behind the wheel of his Honda, nine tenths from Girolami, while Marco Butti of Target Competiition was fourth fastest.

Qualifying is next up for the SEQ field, starting at 09:40 CEST.
