Dan Cammish delighted with Brands pole
Dan Cammish admitted his delight after a last lap effort in qualifying at Brands Hatch saw him grab his first pole of the 2023 BTCC season.
The Motorbase driver successfully navigated a tricky Q1 session – which was affected by three red flags – before putting in a storming lap right at the end of the Showdown.
That allowed him to jump ahead of WSR duo Colin Turkington and Jake Hill and meant a second successive pole for the Ford squad after Dan Rowbottom led the way at Donington Park.
“It was a tough session and in Q1, you never felt safe as the circuit was changing all the time and you didn’t know where the cut-off was going to be,” he said.
“The red flags didn’t help and we had to keep pushing. We made the right call at the end as we opted to change the fronts which was a brave call and it gave us one lap. I could feel the grip rising and we got the lap when it mattered.
“The resurfacing work to the circuit also made it tricky as there was so much grip in the first sector but Surtees and Clearways was like ice on the older tarmac.
“I’m confident we’ll have a strong car in wet or dry tomorrow, although having two BMWs behind will be tough at the start.”
