Ash Sutton rockets to the top in opening Snetterton practice

Ash Sutton produced a storming lap in opening practice at Snetterton to top the times ahead of the latest rounds of the BTCC season.

In warm weather conditions at the Norfolk circuit, Sutton got close to the qualifying lap record during the session as he ended up more than six-tenths of a second clear of team-mate Dan Cammish at the head of the times.

Things would be much closer behind, with Tom Ingram only 0.011s behind Cammish in third at the wheel of his Hyundai, with Jake Hill in fourth as the best placed of the rear-wheel drive cars.

Aron Taylor-Smith was fifth best to suggest a better weekend may lie ahead for Power Maxed Racing after a difficult outing at Brands Hatch last time out, with the Irish driver also the final person to lap within a second of the fastest lap.

Colin Turkington was sixth, with the top ten completed by Andrew Watson, Tom Chilton, Stephen Jelley and Dan Rowbottom.

Amongst those with work to do ahead of FP2 were Rory Butcher and Josh Cook back in twelfth and 14th spots.

Nick Halstead was the only driver not to set a time, with his Hyundai failing to leave the garage with an engine issue.
