Axel Bengtsson secures second Cupra seat

Axel Bengtsson has been named as the second driver for PWR Racing’s assault, which will run under the Cupra Sweden – PWR banner for 2023, on the all-electric STCC this season.

The 22-year-old – who raced with the team last season and took a maiden touring car win at Mantorp – will once again join forces with Robert Dahlgren as part of an expanded programme featuring three cars.

The identity of the driver who will compete in the third all-new Cupra Born currently in-build will be revealed in due course.

“It feels great that Cupra Sweden – PWR has continued trust in me and that I get to continue representing them in the STCC, especially when we become the first in the world as a national electric championship,” Bengtsson said.

“You could say that I learned to drive a front-wheel-drive racing car from scratch last year, so of course it will be a challenge to change – but a challenge that I welcome.”

Team manager Marcus Ekström admitted that the relationship between the two confirmed drivers would be key for the season ahead.

“Axel impressed us all last year and there was no doubt with us about renewing the contract with him,” he said

“Robert and Axel complement each other very well in terms of raw talent and experience. They worked well together last year, a partnership that will be more important than ever this year with all-new electric race cars and a very short pre-season.”
