Portimão chosen to host inaugural TCR World Ranking Final

WSC Group has revealed that the inaugural TCR World Ranking Final will be held on European soil with confirmation that Portimão will host the event in March 2024.

The event will be open to the top 15 drivers from the 2023 TCR World Tour alongside an additional 45 drivers from the TCR World Ranking, selected by virtue of their position in the standings as of early October.

A total of 65 drivers currently fill the Priority Lists 1 and 2 from the rankings, and have until 6 November to confirm if they wish to take up their entry before any wildcard entries can be considered.

The event will run across three days, leading up to the Grand Final to determine who emerges on top.

“We are excited to bring the first ever TCR World Ranking Final to Portimão, a circuit where Touring Cars always provide entertaining races,” WSC president Marcello Lotti said.

“Its up-and-down layout, wide carriageway and safe run-off areas provide the best possible setting for the door-to-door battles between the TCR drivers. On top of this, the facilities are big enough to accommodate such a large field, and the staff – management, services and marshals – are amongst the most professional in the business.”

Circuit CEO Paulo Pinheiro added his delight at the announcement, which comes after much speculation about which circuit would be chosen to host the event.

“It is a source of pride for all of us at Autódromo Internacional de Algarve to host the first ever TCR World Ranking Final,” he said. “We have always had friendly relationship with Marcello Lotti and the WSC Group.

“Now, our cooperation takes another step forward with an event that will attract to Portugal the best sixty Touring Car drivers from all over the world.”

The event will run from 1-3 March.
