Adam Shepherd cruises to Snetterton Race 1 win

Adam Shepherd made it look easy in the first TCR UK race of the weekend at Snetterton, beating CGM with Hart GT driver Carl Boardley by close to five seconds.

Disaster struck Joe Marshall on the formation lap, as the Audi driver was forced to pit with a technical issue on his way to start from second place on the grid.

Cupra driver Shepherd made a strong start and never looked back, with reigning champion Boardley also getting a strong launch from fourth on the grid to snatch second.

Brad Hutchinson (Cupra) and Callum Newsham (Hyundai) were close throughout the race in the battle for the final podium position. Newsham tried his best but could not get past.

There was contact between Rick Kerry (Cupra) and William Beech (Volkswagen) with nine minutes left of the race as Kerry turned Beech around in the final corner.

Shepherd won the race to claim the championship lead, with Boardley finishing second. Hutchinson and Newsham were ten seconds behind in third and fourth position respectively.

Luke Sargeant (Cupra) and Darron Lewis (Hyundai) rounded off the top six.

The second race of the weekend starts at 14:15 local time on Sunday.
