Josh Cook charges to first victory of the season

Josh Cook produced a sensational opening lap to claim his first win of the season in the British Touring Car Championship’s second race at Oulton Park.

The Speedworks Motorsport driver utilised the superior grip of the soft tyre to power his Toyota Corolla GR Sport from seventh on the grid into the lead before the end of the first lap and once out front he never looked back.

As Cook comfortably cruised to the top step of the podium, Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton renewed their battle from the day’s earlier race by once again scrapping for position, with contact yet again being made between the pair.

Ingram would prevail to clinch runners-up laurels while Sutton was forced into the pit lane after being given a black and orange flag for flailing bodywork at the rear of the car.

Sutton’s Alliance Racing team-mate Dan Cammish had looked like he would benefit from the demise of the reigning champion to secure a fifth successive podium finish however a late move from Jake Hill saw the BMW driver snare third place.

Cammish would settle for fourth ahead of the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall’s of Aron Taylor-Smith and Mikey Doble. Taylor-Smith had recovered after being caught up in a lap one incident that included Tom Chilton and Adam Morgan.

Completing the top ten was Colin Turkington, Chris Smiley, Dan Rowbottom and Daryl Deleon.

Race 3 will conclude proceedings at Oulton Park at 17:25.
