Tobias Brink on Race 1 spin: “It’s just stupid”
Tesla driver Tobias Brink lost the championship lead after making an uncharacteristic mistake while fighting for second place during the first STCC race at Knutstorp.
“These kind of mistakes are just not supposed to happen, it’s just stupid,” said Brink.
The Brink Motorsport driver started on the front row next to team-mate and pole-sitter Jimmy Eriksson but lost a place to Volkswagen driver Alexander Graff at the exit of Turn 1.
As Brink chased down Graff, he used his push-to-pass function but braked too late as he had gone around the outside of the Volkswagen driver down the main straight.
“Jimmy [Eriksson] pushed me wide at the start, it was tough and then Graff slipped past,” said Brink.
“I was then a bit too hot on getting past Graff. The push-to-pass means that you enter Turn 1 at higher speed and I just made a mess of it.”
Brink’s mistake has enabled reigning champion Robert Dahlgren, who started fifth and finished third, to claim the championship lead.
But Dahlgren leads by just one point, with Eriksson in third, three points adrift.
Brinks starts on pole for the second race and Eriksson second, while Dahlgren is all the way down in eighth.
