Hyundai confirms unchanged three-car line-up for 2025 FIA TCR World Tour season
BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse has confirmed an unchanged three-car line-up for the 2025 FIA TCR World Tour season, with reigning champion Norbert Michelisz driving alongside Mikel Azcona and Néstor Girolami.
“As soon we knew that we could keep the same driver line-up with Norbert, Mikel and Néstor, then that was our aim,” said Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Manager Benoit Nogier.
“They worked excellently together with each other and the team, which was vital in helping Norbert win the title in Macau. Our aim with BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse for 2025 is very straight forward. We want to win both titles.”
Michelisz claimed the title last year with a margin of eleven points over Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver Thed Björk while the team finished second overall, 63 points behind Cyan Racing.
“I’m very grateful to Hyundai Motorsport and BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse to be ready for another season,” said Michelisz.
“The past eight years have been some of the most successful of my career and I’m in the same position now as I was in 2024 as the defending champion.”
The trio will continue racing the Hyundai Elantra N TCR model for the fifth consecutive season.
“It’s the fifth year with the Hyundai Elantra N TCR, but we still identified some areas where we could improve, and I think we made good steps. We need to keep working because we have some tracks this year that will have a narrow window for set-up we need to find quickly,” said Michelisz.
Azcona finished third overall last year and is aiming to climb two steps up for 2025.
“My goal is the same since I joined Hyundai Motorsport. From the beginning, my aim was to win the championship, and we managed to do it in the first year, which was very, very surprising,” said Azcona.
“I feel in a better shape now than last year. I want to use the opportunity of the first rounds and try to be competitive and go for the Drivers’ Championship and Manufacturers’ Championship. If I am not in position for the title, then I will help my team-mates and work for the team.”
Girolami finished sixth in his debut season for the Hyundai squad last year and keen to improve further for 2025.
“I learned many things last year and I have more confidence going into this season,” said Girolami.
“This will help me to perform better to have a better pace, especially in qualifying because it is everything because it’s so difficult to overtake in the races. Some tracks are more complicated, but in general if you are not performing in qualifying then it’s very difficult to turn around the weekend. My focus is to be on the top of my game from the beginning of the season, try to be competitive to be in a position to fight for the championship.”
