Ash Sutton doubles up at Donington Park
Ash Sutton made it two wins from two races at Donington Park as he once again held off Tom Ingram to triumph in the British Touring Car Championship.
In what was a near carbon-copy contest of the day’s earlier bout, four-time champion Sutton held off Ingram from start-to-finish – with some clever positioning of his Ford Focus ST being enough for him to stay out front.
Third place went the way of Dan Cammish after he continued his fightback after a frustrating race one. Fighting his way forward, the Alliance Racing driver progressed up the order and deposed reigning champion Jake Hill of the position in the closing stages.
West Surrey Racing’s Hill had found himself in the thick of the action earlier on and had been running in third after the charging Honda Civic Type R of One Motorsport’s Josh Cook suffered a puncture.
Despite missing out on the podium, Hill guided his West Surrey Racing BMW to fourth while Dan Rowbottom delivered another strong showing in fifth.
Tom Chilton enjoyed a relatively low-key outing as he claimed sixth place, a position that has now netted him pole position for race three virtue of the reverse grid draw.
Behind Chilton, Aiden Moffat fought his way up to seventh whilst Chris Smiley claimed outright Independent honours in eighth. Rounding out the top ten was Dexter Patterson and Chris Smiley.
Race 3 is scheduled to get underway at 17:25.
