Ash Sutton heads standings after near-perfect weekend

Ash Sutton left Donington Park sitting atop of the British Touring Car Championship standings after kicking off his 2025 campaign in near-perfect style.

The Alliance Racing driver qualified second on the grid for the series’ opening contest of the year and wasted no time in taking the lead from team-mate Dan Cammish in race one, doing so at the exit of Redgate on lap one.

From there, the four-time champion controlled proceedings out front despite coming under pressure from fellow former title winner Tom Ingram. The Ford Focus ST would then repeat the feat in race two as he again resisted the challenge

Tallying a third successive podium in race three, Sutton holds a seven-point advantage over Ingram after the opening weekend of the season whilst race three winner Tom Chilton is a further nine points in arrears.

“It’s been a splendid day at the office,” said Sutton. “Scoring two race wins and another podium, I couldn’t have asked for more really. We did what we needed to do in the first two races and then I gave it a good go against Tom [Ingram] in the finale.

“It’s been a mega weekend and I already can’t wait to get to Brands Hatch. If I’m honest I’m not looking forward to going there with no turbo boost deployment; that is going to make life more difficult but we’ll get our heads down and come up with a plan to combat it.”

Elsewhere, EXCELR8 Motorsport/Hyundai hold a one-point lead over Alliance Racing/Ford in the Manufacturers/Constructors Championship while Team VERTU and NAPA Racing UK are tied at the top of the Teams’ Championship.

In the Independents’ Championship, Chris Smiley leads the Drivers’ standings whilst reigning champions Power Maxed Racing remain on top on the Teams’ leaderboard. Speedworks Motorsport’s Ronan Pearson holds the early advantage in the Jack Sears Trophy.
