Jake Hill splashes to the top of the times in opening practice

Reigning champion Jake Hill set the pace in a damp opening practice session for the British Touring Car Championship at Snetterton.

Greeted by wet conditions at the Norfolk venue, Hill hustled his West Surrey Racing BMW to a best time of 2:10.420 while team-mate Charles Rainford – who was a winner last time out at Brands Hatch – finished hot on his heels in second.

Alliance Racing’s Dan Cammish produced a late charge to clinch third place while another Brands Hatch winner, Daryl Deleon, made it three rear-wheel-drive cars inside the top four.

Four-time title winner and points leader Ash Sutton – who continues to sport a special centenary NAPA livery – was fifth in his Ford Focus ST with Aron Taylor-Smith the lead Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Corolla in sixth.

Dan Rowbottom ended up seventh and had been one of the first drivers to hit the track with slick tyres, albeit briefly.

Completing the top ten was One Motorsport’s Josh Cook, early championship contender Tom Ingram and Aiden Moffat.

Free Practice 2 is scheduled to begin at the Norfolk venue at 12:20.
