Dan Cammish claims commanding lights-to-flag victory
Dan Cammish fended off Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton in the opening race of the day at Snetterton to claim his first victory of the season in the British Touring Car Championship.
Starting from pole position, the Alliance Racing driver didn’t make the best of getaways as the lights went out but had enough in hand to keep Ingram behind him as the field streamed into Wilson for the first time.
While the Yorkshireman claimed victory on the road, his race start remains under investigation – with officials set to look into it post race.
Behind, four-time champion Sutton enjoyed a superlative start as he carved his way from sixth to third within a matter of corners. The Ford Focus ST driver then mounted large amounts of pressure to Ingram but try as he might, he was unable to find a way past.
The opening exchanges of the race saw a number of incidents play out, claiming several high-profile casualties.
Reigning champion Jake Hill suffered a broken toe-link after being hit by the Toyota of Aron Taylor-Smith on lap one and then Gordon Shedden suffered substantial damage following a heavy hit from Max Hall at the final corner.
As Cammish, Ingram and Sutton streaked clear, Dan Rowbottom made it three Fords inside the top four while Restart Racing’s Daniel Lloyd utilised the soft tyre to fight his way up to fifth and the Independent race win.
Adam Morgan, Tom Chilton and Chris Smiley continued the Hyundai run as they finished line astern. Completing the top ten was Mikey Doble, the first of the hard tyre runners, and Daryl Deleon who was the lead BMW.
