Mikey Doble charges to memorable maiden BTCC win

Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble claimed a sensational maiden British Touring Car Championship win in the final race of the day at Snetterton.

Starting from pole position virtue of the reverse grid draw, the Vauxhall Astra driver was wheel-perfect as he led every lap of a captivating finale to hold off four-time champion Ash Sutton.

Sutton produced a blistering opening lap to go from tenth to fourth and after dispatching Josh Cook and Daniel Lloyd, he soon set off after Doble – catching him within a handful of laps.

Ramping up the pressure on the Vauxhall driver, Sutton closed to within a few tenths of a second but a small mistake at the Wilson Hairpin all but secured the victory for Doble, the first in 1001 days for an Independent team in the series.

The four-time champion settled for runners-up laurels while One Motorsport’s Josh Cook enjoyed a strong drive from seventh to claim his first podium of the year.

After failing to finish in race two, Tom Ingram delivered a stunning fightback to go from 24th on the grid to fourth, overtaking Alliance Racing’s Sam Osborne in the closing stages. Race one winner Dan Cammish

Charles Rainford found himself in the thick of the action and took the finish in seventh, narrowly ahead of his West Surrey Racing team-mate Jake Hill.
