Ash Sutton extends BTCC points lead with double podium
Ash Sutton leaves Snetterton still atop the British Touring Car Championship standings after claiming a brace of podium finishes.
Charging to third place in a frenetic opening encounter, the Alliance Racing driver dropped to tenth on the hard tyre in race two before he produced a masterful drive to fight up to second in the reverse grid finale.
Those results, along with his rivals find themselves in strife, means that Sutton heads to Thruxton holding a 15-point advantage at the summit of the leaderboard.
“It’s been a good day at the office,” said Sutton. “We maximised the soft tyre in race one and then made the best of things in race two on the hard tyre. I would have liked to have had a win in race three but by the time that I got to Mikey (Doble) I had ran out of tyre performance and was suffering from a bit of damage.
“I’ll always take the points though so we’ll now get our head down and see what we can come up with for Thruxton. We’ve gone well there in the past and hopefully the impact of the boost won’t be as severe as it has been here this weekend.”
In the Manufacturers/Constructors Championship, EXCELR8 lead Alliance Racing by six points while Team VERTU remain out front in the Teams’ Championship.
Mikey Doble’s overall victory was the undoubted highlight for the Power Maxed Racing driver but his consistent showing ensures he continues to lead the Independent Drivers’ Championship. In the Independent Teams’ Championship, Restart Racing head the way.
Daryl Deleon meanwhile continues to be the benchmark in the Jack Sears Trophy ahead of his West Surrey Racing team-mate Charles Rainford.
