Manuel Fernandes jr. joins Vila Real grid with SP Compétition

Manuel Fernandes jr. is going to join the FIA TCR World Tour grid in Vila Real, driving a Cupra for SP Compétition.

“It’s a dream come true to be on the same grid with the best touring car drivers in the world!” said Fernandes jr.

The Portuguese driver tested the Cupra Leon VZ for the French team at Barcelona a couple of months ago and will join regular drivers Aurélien Comte and John Filippi for this event only.

“To ensure a good car, we contacted SP, who were incredibly attentive. During the test I loved the team structure. It’s a very welcoming family team with great professionalism and is also fantastic to joining Comte and Filippi, two excellent drivers who will help me grow,” said Fernandes.

“Representing the colours of your country is amazing, and it becomes even more special when you race in your hometown. Vila Real is one of the best street circuits in the world, with enthusiastic fans and parties throughout the whole weekend. For those who love racing and celebration, there’s nothing better! I invite the fans to come and experience one of the best racing weekends in the world.”

Fernandes jr. will become the first Portuguese driver to take part in the FIA TCR World Tour for the Vila Real street race which takes place on July 4-6.

“My goal is to do my best and try to be on the radar of teams looking for new drivers, so that in the future I can join the TCR World Tour for a full season,” said Fernandes jr.
