High-speed Thruxton beckons for BTCC
The British Touring Car Championship will take on the high-speed demands of Thruxton this weekend as the 2025 season continues around the fastest circuit in the UK.
Marking the fourth stop on the schedule, the flat-out sweeping curves of the Hampshire venue are widely regarded as being the ultimate proving ground for both cars and drivers – making the action on-track ultra close.
Eight different drivers have triumphed across the opening nine races however it is four-time champion Ash Sutton that goes into the weekend in the box seat, sitting atop the standings with a 15-point lead.
The Alliance Racing driver was twice a winner back at the Donington Park season-opener and since then he has been relentlessly totting up the points in his Ford Focus ST.
Tom Ingram remains Sutton’s closest challenger as it stands and the Hyundai driver will be eager to claim not only a first win of the season but also a maiden win for EXCELR8 around Thruxton.
Reigning champion Jake Hill has endured an up and down season to-date however the West Surrey Racing driver remains in third place and is more than capable of making his mark in his BMW 330i M Sport.
Elsewhere, Dan Rowbottom and Dan Cammish will be eager to build on their first wins of the season while the Hyundai duo of Adam Morgan and Tom Chilton have showcased plenty of front-running speed at all events so far.
Restart Racing’s Chris Smiley is the lead Independent runner at the moment and he’ll be focused on stretching his lead over Power Maxed Racing’s Mikey Doble, who claimed a popular maiden win last time out.
When it comes to Thruxton it would be remiss of anyone to overlook the most successful BTCC driver around the 2.356-mile layout, Josh Cook – especially as he is now back in the One Motorsport Honda Civic Type R.
Other drivers that will be looking for a strong trio of races include BMW trio Charles Rainford, Aiden Moffat and Daryl Deleon, as well as the Toyota quartet of Gordon Shedden, Ronan Pearson, James Dorlin and Aron Taylor-Smith.
The weekend will also see Senna Proctor make his long-awaited return to the championship this weekend as he joins EXCELR8 for the remainder of the season, replacing Michael Crees.
Qualifying at Snetterton takes place at 15:00 local time/16:00 CEST on Saturday before Sunday sees three races take centre stage; the first at 11:45, followed by race two at 14:35 and race three at 17:05.
