Ryan Wood and Broc Feeney wins first two races at Wanneroo

Ryan Wood claimed his maiden Supercars victory in the first race of the weekend at Wanneroo Raceway while Broc Feeney headed a Triple Eight 1-2 in the second race.

Chaz Mostert (Ford) started the first race from pole position ahead of team-mate Wood.

But the Walkinshaw Andretti driver could only withstand the pressure from his team-mate for ten laps as Wood snatched the lead.

Wood selected to just change two tyres during his pit stop which saw him emerging in the lead ahead of Feeney.

Feeney’s team-mate Will Brown opted to change four tyres and the Triple Eight driver charged past Feeney for third and soon after Mostert for second place.

The reigning champion then closed in on Wood who managed to withstand the pressure to claim his first Supercars Championship victory by just six tenths of a second ahead of Brown.

Mostert came home in third place ahead of Feeney and Brodie Kostecki who rounded off the top five.

Wood started the second race from pole but was beaten into Turn 1 by Tickford Racing driver Cameron Waters and Matthew Payne of Grove Racing.

But Wood soon caught up and passed both drivers to head the field. But he ran out of luck as his rear-left suspension broke, sending him off track and later into the pits for repairs to finish the race in 24th and last place.

Championship leader Feeney headed the field after the pit stops were completed with team-mate Brown right behind.

Ford driver Mostert started the race in eleventh and charged up through the field, snatching third place from Waters with 22 laps to go.

Waters then closed right up on Triple Eight driver Brown in the fight for second place but could not get past.

Feeney won the race by 1.6 seconds over Brown to make it a Triple Eight 1-2 while Mostert was just 0.4 seconds behind Brown in third.

Waters finished fourth ahead of Payne while Thomas Randle rounded off the top six.

Feeney heads the standings on 1036 points while Brown is second on 1009 and Payne is third on 929.

The third and final race of the weekend starts at 15:15 local time/09:15 CEST.
