Tom Ingram pleased with weekends work at Thruxton

Tom Ingram was left happy with his performance at Thruxton in the British Touring Car Championship this past weekend as the EXCELR8 driver closed the gap on Ash Sutton at the top of the standings.

The EXCELR8 driver had arrived at the Hampshire circuit having tallied six podiums from the first nine races, although surprisingly none of them had seen him stand on the top step.

That was put right in the opening encounter however as the 2022 champion came out on top of an almighty scrap with Sutton to triumph, and he later followed that up with a further two second place finishes.

Heading to Oulton Park – a happy hunting ground for Ingram in the past – the gap between series leader Sutton and Ingram now stands at nine points.

“I’m really pleased with the weekend and coming away from it with a front row start, a win and two second places is great,” said Ingram as he reflected on the weekend.

“We’ve scored a good haul of points, although it’s slightly bonkers that we’ve done that and have still only clawed back six points in the championship – which shows how tough it is this year.

“The only real issue we faced was in race three where we didn’t quite have the pace from earlier in the day but we had luck on our side with the incident between Ash and Jake – although it was also slightly scary as I had to just stay on the throttle and hope I didn’t get collected by one of them coming back on track.

“It helped bring us back into the fight for the podium and we made the most of the turbo boost to get second late on.

“It’s good to get that first win of the season under my belt, and to give the team a first win at Thruxton, and we’ll look to add to it at Oulton Park next time out.”
