Sten-Dorian Piirimagi on maiden pole: “It was a nervous night”
Sten-Dorian Piirimagi claimed his first pole position in TCR Spain at Valencia and the ALM Motorsport driver said tyre management was a key issue for the strategy of the qualifying session.
“The Q1, with fresh tyres but not new, was good, the balance was there,” Piirimagi told TouringCarTimes.
“Then, with the new tyres, at first it was a bit messy but managed to get a good lap time and then in the Q2 managed to improve a little bit further.
“I wasn’t sure how the session would go after yesterday’s free practices, we didn’t know who had new tyres and who didn’t. So let’s say it was a nervous night of sleep.”
The track layout, with few overtaking points, and the heat will be key factors in the race, and Piirimagi hopes to make the most of the situation.
“For the race I’m planning to chill out and enjoy the race, I’m privileged to be able to be here, so I’m hoping to take the most I can out of it and enjoy the weekend.”
