Ruben Volt: “We didn’t know we had that much pace”
ALM Motorsport driver Ruben Volt drove a competitive second FIA TCR World Tour race at Valencia to recover from seventh on the grid to second place at the chequered flag.
“Yes, the result was pretty amazing,” Volt told TouringCarTimes after the race. “We didn’t know we had that much pace, but it was good fun out there.”
The Estonian had set his sights early on to charge up through the field.
“The conditions were cooler than yesterday, so there were more opportunities to overtake. We knew we had the speed, so it was a question of sending it and go,” said Volt.
Volt didn’t shy competing against drivers from the FIA TCR World Tour.
“There is a level of respect. In certain series you go down the inside and they turn, but here they see you and they don’t just randomly turn into, so huge amount of respect to them also for giving the space and not just pushing you off the track,” said the Estonian driver.
The Honda driver faced the challenge from Lynk & Co’s Yann Ehrlacher in the closing stages of the race, knowing he had the advantage of enjoying clean air.
“The last lap wasn’t the prettiest, because my tyres were done. I had Ehrlacher in the mirrors, but I knew that if he was following that close behind there was stuff for him also,” said Volt.
“For Race 3 I will do the same, we aren’t going to change the plan, so we are just going to have some fun.”
