Yann Ehrlacher elated after claiming points lead in Spain
Cyan Racing driver Yann Ehrlacher was beaming after emerging as the most successful driver of the second FIA TCR World Tour race weekend of 2025 in Valencia, with the Frenchman now leading the drivers’ standings.
“It has been a long time since I had a weekend like this and getting the pole position by a few hundredths was like the cherry on the cake,” Ehrlacher told TouringCarTimes.
“I’m very happy, everything went to plan, we’ve been focusing in ourselves and now we look to Monza.”
The Frenchman started Race 3 from pole position, immediately taking the inside of the track to defend his position from team-mate Santiago Urrutia.
“It was not a very good start, with the lack of grip on that side of the straight, but it was just enough to keep the lead, so I’m happy,” said Ehrlacher.
“But now we have to investigate how to do it better for the next time, because Monza is a long getaway, so we need to be good there also.”
Team-mate Urrutia overtook the Frenchman for the lead on the second lap, with Ehrlacher recovering the position a lap later.
“The fight with Santiago was a good fight but we always say we have to fight together a bit further on in the race, but I think he didn’t receive the message, or he didn’t understand it very well,” added Ehrlacher.
Urrutia meanwhile did not think the fight between the two was anything out of the ordinary.
“The fight with Yann was good and nothing we haven’t seen before, the team is always the most important thing,” Urrutia said.
“We are satisfied and I scored some good points for the championship, so I’m happy.”
Ehrlacher leads the drivers’ championship with 152 points, six ahead of Urrutia and seven over Honda’s Esteban Guerrieri.
Lynk & Co Cyan Racing also leads the teams’ table with 325 points, 106 ahead of GOAT Racing ahead and 167 over BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse.
