Leonel Pernía joins FIA TCR World Tour grid at Monza
Leonel Pernía will join the FIA TCR World Tour grid at Monza in Italy this weekend, driving a Honda Civic alongside Ruben Volt at ALM Motorsport.
“Competing against the highest level of TCR is something I’ve been aiming for for a long time, and it’s something that motivates me immensely,” said Pernía.
“I want to thank everyone who has made this possible, Sebastián Martino, TCR South America and the FIA TCR World Tour all played a huge role, as they made a huge effort and showed a lot of interest in helping me compete in the championship.”
The Argentinian driver is currently leading the TCR South America championship for Honda YPF Racing and he is aiming high for this weekend.
“The pressure is there; I put it on myself because I want to fight for the win, and I can’t wait for the weekend to come so I can get going at Monza,” said Pernía.
The last time Pernía raced at Monza was 15 years ago, making a one-off appearance for Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, finishing tenth in one of the races.
