Ash Sutton charges to victory in second Oulton Park bout
Ash Sutton made the best of the soft tyre in race two at Oulton Park to claim his fourth British Touring Car Championship win of the season.
Having dropped to fourth place late on in race one after comfortably running in third, the Alliance Racing driver had free choice on tyre selection and made the most of his advantage to triumph ahead of Adam Morgan and Tom Chilton.
Launching off the second row, the Alliance Racing driver jumped both Dan Cammish and Chris Smiley through the opening sequence of corners and he was soon fixed to the rear bumper of race leader Tom Ingram.
Hounding the Hyundai driver over the course of the opening lap, the four-time champion made his move on lap two with a dive down the inside of the Island Hairpin. Ingram would fight back as they powered over the hill but with Sutton on the inside line heading into Hislops, the move was completed.
Ingram – who was running the hard tyre virtue of his win earlier in the day – was also overtaken by team-mates Morgan and Chilton before the safety car made an appearance following a high-speed off for Daniel Lloyd heading up Clay Hill.
On the restart, Sutton maintained a steady gap to Morgan and Chilton while further back Charles Rainford made impact with the tyre barrier on the exit of Old Hall, although he was able to continue.
As Sutton streaked to victory and the EXCELR8 duo of Morgan and Chilton completed the podium, former title winner Ingram produced a valiant defensive drive to secure fourth ahead of reigning champion Jake Hill.
Senna Proctor had been challenging Hill however bodywork rubbing against the front wheel of his dropped him down the order to eighth, with Dan Rowbottom and Josh Cook both benefitting.
Completing the top ten was the charging Gordon Shedden and Cammish who, like Ingram, had been running on the hard tyre.
The weekend’s third and final race at Oulton Park is scheduled to begin at 17:05.
