Aurélien Comte: “The car was incredible”
Aurélien Comte claimed his maiden FIA TCR World Tour victory in the final race of the weekend at Monza, charging through from eighth on the grid.
“The car was incredible,” said Comte.
“I had a good start and was up to P4. I focussed on my driving and was careful with the tyres; I had a very good race and took the lead. The victory is for my wife, as it’s been a difficult week for my family, so for me I’m happy with the good result.”
The Frenchman looked set to challenge for the win in the first race of the weekend until a front-left puncture ended his race prematurely.
The SP Competition driver had no such problems in the second race however and fought his way past Ignacio Montenegro, Thed Björk and Néstor Girolami.
“Thanks so much to SP Compétition and CUPRA who had done a great job together,” said Comte.
“I really enjoyed fighting with the drivers who were in front of me; these guys were very clean in terms of fights.”
The Frenchman is placed ninth overall after Monza, trailing points leader Yann Ehrlacher by 90 points after a difficult previous race weekend in Valencia where he scored just five points.
