Gordon Shedden powers to first win of the season with Toyota

Gordon Shedden produced a masterful drive in a damp reverse grid finale at Oulton Park to claim his and Speedworks Motorsport’s first win of the season in the British Touring Car Championship.

Heavy rainfall battered the Cheshire circuit prior to the start of race three but that didn’t deter the three-time champion as he fended off the chasing Jake Hill, Ash Sutton and Dan Rowbottom to clinch his first win since returning to the series.

Shedden held the lead as the lights went out but came under immediate pressure from the One Motorsport Honda of Josh Cook. Sadly for Cook, an issue with the throttle would see him hit strife and suffer a number of trips off the circuit before retiring.

Reigning champion Hill then ramped up the pressure on the Scotsman as he showed the nose of his BMW on a number of occasions. Despite seeing his progress thwarted by a handful of safety car appearances, the West Surrey Racing driver made a last-ditch attempt on the penultimate lap but slid wide and dropped down the order.

Hill’s demise would open the door for championship leader Sutton – who had started ninth – to carve his way up the order to secure runners-up laurels ahead of team-mate Dan Rowbottom.

Tom Ingram had appeared to struggle in the opening exchanges however the EXCLER8 driver got quicker as the race went on and powered to fourth come the chequered flag, ahead of both Senna Proctor and Dan Cammish.

Hill managed to recover to finish seventh Hill ahead of James Dorlin, whilst Charles Rainford and Sam Osborne.

Alongside Cook; the likes of Tom Chilton, Stephen Jelley, Nicolas Hamilton and Max Hall were just some of the names to struggle and fail to finish.
