Ruben Volt bags pole at Misano

Ruben Volt will start the opening TCR Europe race of the weekend at Misano from pole position after edging out Jacopo Cimenes to top qualifying in Italy.

The ALM Motorsport driver was able to edge out his rival by just 0.064s during the second phase of the session to put himself at the head of the field for the weekend opener, which is scheduled to take place this evening.

The first part of qualifying had been topped by Jenson Brickley as the Brit outpaced the impressive Cimenes and Santiago Concepción – with Brickley being the only non-Honda driver amongst the top six.

The battle to make the top twelve, and therefore to fight for pole position, would see a number of fancied runners fail to make it through, with current championship leader Jimmy Clairet finding himself mired down in 15th place, which is where he will now start both races.

Max Hart, Nicolas Taylor and Nicola Baldan also failed to make Q2 despite being widely expected to battle for the leading positions.

Volt set the early benchmark time in Q2 with a time of 1:41.771s on his first run putting him ahead of Cimenes and it would prove to be a time that couldn’t be beaten as the Estonian driver grabbed a first pole since 2023.

Cimenes had to settle for second place ahead of his series debut, with Brickley taking third despite losing his first timed laps to a track limits penalty.

Brickley edged out Concepción by just 0.003 to take the place with the Spaniard joining him on row two, with Viktor Andersson in his Lynk & Co alongside the Hyundai of Junesung Park on row three.

Teddy Clairet would end the session with the tenth best time which will put him on pole for the reverse grid race on Sunday, sharing the front row of the grid with Felipe Fernandez.
