Ignacio Montenegro: “We couldn’t give it all in Q2”
GOAT Racing driver Ignacio Montenegro qualified in tenth place at Vila Real, securing the reversed grid pole position for Race 2, but felt that a better result could have been in the books.
“It’s my first time racing in a street circuit, but I found a good pace in Q1 and then in Q2 I was also ok. But I had an issue with the fuel pump during all the laps,” Montenegro told TouringCarTimes.
“On one hand, it’s good because tenth means pole position for the second race and that gives me the opportunity to attempt a podium in the World Tour.
“But, on the other side, I missed on doing that last lap in Q2 where they say you have to give it all and live that adrenaline, so I couldn’t live that experience, but I’m equally happy for the team and my evolution on the track.”
The hot conditions, with air temperatures over 36ºC, also had an effect on the Argentinian, who is recovering after being sick earlier in the week.
“It was very hot in the car, and it was specially bad for me since I was sick on Wednesday and Thursday because of food poisoning, with fever and aches,” said Montenegro.
“I’m still low on energy, so it was difficult in the Q2, but I’m feeling better today and hope to continue for tomorrow.”
